What you can do on every page

Gaffer Lab puts all of Fantasy Premier League (FPL) in one place: every stat, club and player, your own team and the live gameweek, with statistical modelling on top. This guide walks through it one page at a time, with screenshots: what each page shows, what you can do there, and the questions it answers before the deadline. Everything it expects is written down before each deadline and graded afterwards, so the numbers can be checked rather than taken on trust.

Start here: what Gaffer Lab does

Open Gaffer Lab →

Every FPL decision comes down to the same few questions: who scores the most points, how sure is that, and what does it cost me? Gaffer Lab answers them with numbers calculated from official FPL data and Opta match stats, not with tips. And it keeps a record of what it said, so you can see how those numbers did.

The Overview. The deadline, the week's headline picks and, once a squad is loaded, its score and the three transfers that would help it most.

Who it is for

  • New to FPLEasy picks, backed by stats. You do not need to know what xG means. Start with the ten best picks in each position, copy the captain pick, or let Scout build you a legal 15 inside £100m.Start with Players, Captaincy and the Simulator.
  • Chasing the topEvery stat, gone deeper. For managers who already know the game and want more than the official site gives: Opta underlying numbers, floors and ceilings, effective ownership among the top 100, and signals the crowd has not caught yet.Start with Players, Elite and Signals.
  • Rank slidingTurn red arrows green. When the rank keeps dropping, guessing harder does not help. Load your Team ID for a score out of 100, what is holding the squad back and the transfers that lift it most.Start with My Team and Differentials.

Your first five minutes

  1. Load a teamType any FPL Team ID into the box at the top, yours or a rival's. No login, no password: public teams only. You can also paste fifteen player names.
  2. Read the verdictMy Team gives the squad a Gaffer Score out of 100, says which part is weakest, and lists the transfers, captain and chip calls that would lift it.
  3. Test your ideasMake the moves on the pitch and watch the projection change, or open the Simulator and build a different 15 from scratch.

Where is my Team ID? On the official Fantasy Premier League site, open the Points page. The number in the address bar after /entry/ is your Team ID.

Six things people use it for

  • Picking a captain. A main, a safe and a differential choice, each with a floor and a ceiling, not just one name.
  • Planning transfers. The single moves that add the most expected points to your best eleven over one, five or eight gameweeks, points hits included.
  • Reading fixtures properly. A difficulty rating built from how clubs actually attack and defend, so a trip to a struggling big club is not a flat 4.
  • Finding players before the crowd. Low-owned players with strong projections, price rises about to land, and what the top-ranked managers already hold.
  • Building a squad. The strongest legal 15 inside £100m for the next one, three or five gameweeks, with the week-by-week lineups.
  • Following the gameweek live. Your points as the matches are played, with provisional bonus and projected auto-subs, and your mini-league re-scored live.

Overview: the gameweek on one page

Open Overview →

The landing page, and it changes with the week. While a round is being played it opens on now: your live score, every match and what just happened. Between rounds it opens on the next deadline: a countdown, the week's headline picks and a short version of every other page, each with a button to go deeper.

Gaffer Lab Overview during an FPL gameweek: the manager's live points against the average, captain, players playing now and still to come, a scoreboard of every Premier League match of the round and a list of the latest goals, assists and cards
Matchday. From the deadline until FPL marks the round final: your points, the scoreboard and the latest goals, assists and cards, yours at the top. The planning page follows under "Planning ahead".
Gaffer Lab Overview picks section: captaincy ranking, top expected points players and differentials under 10 percent ownership for the next FPL gameweek, with a Next GW and Next 5 switch
Who to pick. Captaincy, top expected points and differentials. One switch moves every list between the next gameweek and the next five.

What you can do

  • Switch the window. Next GW for a quick transfer, Next 5 for a longer plan. Every list on the page follows.
  • See your squad's headline numbers once a team is loaded: Gaffer Score, projected points, squad value, and Scout's top three transfers, each made with one button.
  • Check the odds board. Each club's chance of a clean sheet and of scoring twice or more, with the best pick from that club.
  • Scan set-piece takers and defensive contributions, the two sources of points most tables ignore.
  • Catch tonight's price moves and the next double or blank gameweek for your chips.
  • Land on the round in play. From the deadline until FPL marks the round final, the page opens on your live score (load a Team ID), a scoreboard of every match (the ones in play lead; a gold number counts your players in it) and "Just now": the latest goals, assists, cards and penalties, yours at the top with the points they earned you, and every player's points so far beside his name. A Refresh now button beside the round's state reads everything again at once (once a minute). Under it, while matches are on, "Close to the DC +2": players two or fewer short of the defensive-contribution bonus (9 of 10, 10 of 12). Updated every minute. FPL does not publish the minute of a goal, so the list runs in the order the site saw them, about a minute behind.
  • Then the round for everyone. Under your score sit six figures from The round (what managers did at the deadline, then the points), and under those the planning page for the next deadline. See The Round.

Questions it answers

The Round: every gameweek, reported

Open The Round →

A report on each gameweek for every manager, in three parts: what FPL managers did before the deadline, what the points said, and how the season is adding up. Built from official FPL figures for every manager, Opta match data, a fresh random sample of 1,000 managers each round and the top 100.

Gaffer Lab The Round, Reveal tab for an FPL gameweek: transfers made, the most bought and sold players with their transfer counts, the captain vote, chips played, and net transfers in and out by club
Reveal. The deadline in numbers: transfers made, the most bought and sold, which clubs managers moved towards and away from, and the chips played.

What you can do

  • Read the deadline. Reveal shows the transfer market, ownership and price moves since the last deadline, the captain vote, the chips, how managers moved (rolled transfers, hits, team value) and how many transfers chased last week's big scores.
  • Set the crowd against the top 100. The captain vote, formations and moves of a random sample of 1,000 managers side by side with the top 100 of the overall league, and where the two part.
  • Follow the points. From kick-off, Live has a scoreboard of every match in your own time and the round's figures as they come in, updated every minute. When FPL marks the round final it becomes the Verdict.
  • Judge the round. The Verdict gives the Team of the round and the Flop XI on a pitch, the template scored, the hauls, finishing against expected goals, the unluckiest players, the captains, the crowd's transfers graded, and the round against our own projections.
  • See the season. Average and highest score by round, the most-captained player each week, chips and transfers by round, who delivers most often, and points per £m.
  • Go back to any gameweek with the menu at the top. Nothing is left blank: a figure not in yet says when it will arrive.

Questions it answers

  • Who did FPL managers buy and sell before the deadline?
  • Who did the top 100 captain this week?
  • Did last week's transfers pay off?
  • What was the highest-scoring FPL team possible this gameweek?
  • Which players were unlucky not to score?

Tap a match on the Overview's scoreboard, The Round's scores or the Live tab and its sheet opens over the page, with or without a Team ID: the score and the clock, then scorers, assists, bonus (starred while provisional), defensive contributions that reached the +2 and, while the match is on, the players close to it, saves, penalties and cards, each on its club's side. Below: your own players in the match and everyone's points in it, highest at the top. It refreshes every minute while the match is in play.

A match sheet. Opens from any scoreboard on the site. The Round's score cards also list the scorers under the score.

Good to know. "The crowd" always means the random sample of 1,000 managers, because FPL does not publish captains for the whole game. Figures for every manager, such as transfers and chips, are FPL's own official totals. While a round is on, The Round in the menu carries a pink dot.

My Team: a full review of any FPL squad

Open My Team →

Load a squad by Team ID and get a verdict: a score out of 100, what is holding it back, the transfers worth making, which chip to play and when. Then make the changes on the pitch and watch every number follow. On match days its Live tab scores the round as it is played.

Gaffer Lab My Team review: a Gaffer Score of 63 out of 100 broken into eight parts, chip advice for Triple Captain, Bench Boost, Wildcard and Free Hit, squad notes, and Scout's three best transfers with expected points gained
The review band. Gaffer Score with its eight parts, a Use, Watch or Hold verdict for each chip, notes on the squad, and Scout's moves ranked by points gained.

What you can do

  • Load any public team, yours or a mini-league rival's, or paste player names for a quick look.
  • Read the Gaffer Score. One number for the squad, measured against the best eleven the model could pick, with the weakest part named.
  • Make Scout's moves in one go. The transfers that lift your best eleven most over the next gameweek, five or eight, with the cost of any hit shown.
  • Plan on the pitch. Sell a player, fill the slot from the market, swap the bench into the eleven, move the armband. Undo puts anything back.
  • Get chip advice for this squad: Triple Captain, Bench Boost, Wildcard and Free Hit, each with a reason.
  • Switch to Live on match days for your running score, every match and your mini-league as it stands: see the Live tab of this guide.

Questions it answers

  • How good is my FPL team, really?
  • Which transfer should I make this week?
  • Is it worth taking a four-point hit?
  • Should I play my Wildcard or Bench Boost now?
Gaffer Lab transfer planner: an FPL squad on a pitch with photo cards showing fixtures and expected points, beside a searchable transfer market with price, expected points and haul chance
Transfers and lineup. Your squad on the left, the market on the right. The summary bar keeps count of transfers, hits, money in the bank and projected points.

Good to know. FPL only publishes a team as it stood at the last deadline, so transfers you have already made this week will not show. Add them here and they are remembered for the round.

Live: the gameweek as it happens

Open Live →

Once a round kicks off, My Team has a second tab, and from the deadline until the round is final My Team opens on it (on a phone the tab bar's My Team reads Live, with a dot). It reads FPL's live feed once a minute while matches are in play and scores your squad the way FPL will when the round ends, so the total you see is the one you are heading for, not the one the official site is still catching up to.

Gaffer Lab live gameweek view: an FPL team's live points total against the average, captain score, players still to play and points left on the bench, with the squad on a pitch showing minutes, bonus points system scores and match events, beside the gameweek's fixtures
Live. Points against the average, the captain's return, who is still to play and what is sitting on the bench. Each card shows minutes, BPS and what the player has done; the gameweek's fixtures run down the right.

What you can do

  • See your real total early. Until FPL confirms a match's bonus, the three highest BPS scores get a provisional 3, 2 and 1, marked with a star.
  • Auto-subs and the vice-captain, projected. A starter with no minutes is replaced by the first bench player who fits the formation, exactly as FPL will do it.
  • Watch your mini-league live. With a Team ID loaded, pick one of your leagues and every team in it is re-scored from the same feed, with places gained and lost, so the table runs ahead of FPL's own.
  • On a phone or tablet, the score stays in view. A bar with your points, the average, who is playing and who is to come sits under the header as you scroll. Under it, every match as one swipeable row (tap one for its match sheet), then one switch between the pitch, the player list and the matches, instead of three long sections.
  • Your players, what happened. Their goals, assists, cards and penalties, the newest at the top, with the points each earned you.
  • Tap a player for his points, line by line: minutes, goals, assists, clean sheet, saves, defensive contributions, cards and bonus, checked against FPL's own total, then ×2 if he wears your armband.
  • See the whole round at a glance. The banner has one small bar per match: green for finished, pulsing red for in play, grey for still to come, with how many are done.
  • Leave it open. It checks again at the next kick-off, and once the deadline passes it moves on to the new gameweek by itself. A one-line strip carries the running total onto the Squad tab.

Questions it answers

  • How many points am I on right now?
  • Who is getting the bonus points in this match?
  • Will my bench player come on as an auto-sub?
  • Where am I in my mini-league, live?

Live, player by playerEvery score and every stat in one view

Below the pitch sits one table for the whole squad, so you never have to open fifteen player pages to see how the week is going. Each row is a player: whether he is playing, finished or did not play, his minutes, then a column for everything that earns or costs points, his BPS, his bonus, his points and what he adds to your total once the captain's armband is counted.

Gaffer Lab live player-by-player table: every player in an FPL squad on one screen with match status, minutes, goals, assists, clean sheet, defensive contributions, saves, penalty saves, BPS, bonus, yellow and red cards, points and the total counted towards the team, with the bench listed below the starting eleven
Player by player. Starters on top, the bench faded underneath with the points it is holding. The captain's row shows the doubling; an icon key runs along the bottom.
  • Read a week in ten seconds. Goals in gold, assists in blue, a tick for a clean sheet, defensive contributions and saves as counts, cards as cards.
  • Sort by any column. Tap BPS to see who is in line for bonus, or points to see who is carrying the team. One tap returns to team order.
  • Spot the bench points. Bench rows show what each player scored and a dash in the total, until an auto-sub brings one in.
  • Tap a row for the player's full panel.
  • Open any match in the fixtures list for its match sheet: scorers, assists, bonus, defensive-contribution hits, saves and cards for both sides, with your own players underlined. The number on a fixture is how many of your players are in it.

A match sheet. Closed fixtures are one line each; an open one shows what happened, side by side.

Good to know. Live needs a loaded squad, so load a Team ID on My Team first. The mini-league table needs a Team ID; a pasted squad has no leagues. FPL publishes ranks after each match day, so the only live table is your mini-league, which is re-scored here.

The explorer. Sort by any heading, filter by position, club and price, and choose which columns to show. The table remembers your choice.

What you can do

  • Rank by expected points for the next gameweek, five or eight, or by value per £m.
  • Judge risk, not just the average. Haul% is the chance of 10 or more points; Ceiling is how good a good week gets.
  • Compare up to three players side by side, with the better figure highlighted.
  • Open any player for the points breakdown, his record gameweek by gameweek and his price trend. Once he has played, the top of the panel breaks his points down line by line.
  • Use Top picks for the ten best options in each position, filtered by club and maximum price.
  • Check set pieces: who takes penalties, corners and free kicks at all 20 clubs.

Captaincy: three answers, not one

This gameweek. Three picks at the top, then every candidate with a bar running from a bad week to a good one and a marker at the expected points.

What you can do

  • Pick by temperament. Main is the highest projection, Safe has the best floor among the leaders, Differential is owned by under 15% with a ceiling close to the main pick's.
  • Rank your own eleven once a team is loaded, or every likely starter in the game.
  • Look five or ten gameweeks ahead for the best three captains each week and how clear the choice is.
  • Find the Triple Captain week: the best player and gameweek over the next ten.

Questions it answers

  • Who should I captain in FPL this week?
  • Is there a good differential captain?
  • When should I use my Triple Captain chip?

Risers and fallers. Progress of 100% means a change is expected at the next update. Players in your squad carry a teal edge.

What you can do

  • Buy before a rise, sell before a fall when you were going to make the move anyway.
  • Track the whole season: start price, price today, the change and the trend for every player.
  • Filter by position, club, your squad only, or only players who have moved.

  • Switch between cards and a list: one sortable line per squad, projection against points.
  • Check the track record: projected against actual, squad by squad, round by round, graded from the recorded final call once FPL's points are final.
  • Open any squad in the simulator to study or adapt it.

Questions it answers

  • How accurate were last week's projections?
  • Does chasing fixtures beat backing the best players?
  • Would my draft have beaten the model?

Signals: what the data flags this week

Open Signals →

A page of findings calculated from the numbers alone and refreshed every gameweek. No opinions, no sponsored picks: each card is a pattern in real match data, with a link to the page behind it.

Gaffer Lab signals page with cards for Premier League clubs creating more expected goals than they score, clubs conceding more than they should, fixtures easing and tightening, and FPL players rated higher than the official estimate
Signals. Clubs creating more than they score, fixture runs turning, players the engine rates above FPL's own estimate, and more. Search a name or filter to players, clubs or rounds.

What you can do

  • Spot luck running out or about to turn: goals against expected goals for clubs and players.
  • Catch fixture swings before the ticker makes them obvious.
  • See where the model disagrees with FPL's own projections and with the crowd's ownership.
  • Be warned about rotation, players one booking from a ban, and price moves.
  • Find your own players with search; squad members carry a teal edge.

Questions it answers

  • Which players are underperforming their xG?
  • Which popular players should I think about selling?
  • Who is one yellow card from a suspension?

Chips and Help

Open Help →

Two smaller pages, a search that reaches everything, and a few things that work everywhere.

Gaffer Lab help page explaining the four parts of the Gaffer AI engine and a searchable glossary of Fantasy Premier League terms such as xP, xG and effective ownership
Help. What each number means, how it is checked, and a glossary of every abbreviation on the site.
Gaffer Lab search box open over the page, finding Fantasy Premier League players and a club for a typed query, with price, ownership and expected points beside each player
Search. One box for players, clubs, pages and glossary terms. Results are instant because everything is already loaded.
  • Search from anywhere. Press Ctrl K (Cmd K on a Mac) or /, or use the magnifier in the header. Type a player to open his panel, a club for its page, a page name to jump there, or a term such as EO for its meaning.
  • Chips. A dedicated chip planner is on the way. Today, chip advice for your squad lives on My Team, the Triple Captain week is on Captaincy, and doubles and blanks show on the Overview and the fixture ticker.
  • Help. Plain-English explanations of expected points, Haul%, Ceiling and Floor, Lab FDR and the club ratings, how the numbers are checked, plus a searchable glossary of every term.
  • Page guides that follow the week. The first time you open a page, a short guide points at the real controls on screen; during a gameweek the Overview has its own matchday guide, and each view of a page (Live, Fixtures & results, The Round) has one too. Replay any of them with the ? button, or from Help.
  • It keeps itself current. When a deadline passes and FPL reopens on the new gameweek, the page reloads its data without being asked.
  • Point at any dotted term anywhere on the site for a one-line definition, or tap it on a phone.
  • Open any player or club wherever the name appears, to open the player panel or the club page.
  • Your players are marked with a teal edge on every list once a team is loaded.
  • Works on a phone: a tab bar at the bottom (The Round, Teams and the rest sit under More; during a round My Team reads Live), the same pages and the same numbers. Tables fit the screen, and wider ones run sideways with the name pinned.
  • Light and dark themes, switched from the button at the top right.
